Job Description

Sequence has just been exclusively retained by our client, one of the Bay Area’s oldest and largest Landscape Maintenance and Construction organization, to find them a capable General Manager.

This is currently the region's most high profile positions of its type.

The ideal individual would be an experienced and professional leader who can serve as the hand of Executive Leadership and the organizations Board of Directors to oversee all activities of the company. Beyond serving as responsible management employee in charge, his includes ensuring financial success and planned growth of the company (P&L, budgeting, business planning, etc.). It also encompasses all strategic planning efforts such as development and implementing growth strategies as well as market expansion, strategic operational, administrative and compliance direction. It has direct and indirect input into the management and direction of all professional, technical, administrative and field staff as well as infrastructure systems.

This opening is as of result of a newly created role by the organizations Board of Directors. Their landscape division is a growing and expanding $10M business enterprise with maintenance and construction lines of business; holding major federal, municipal, and city maintenance contracts as well as large private commercial clientele and general contractor relationships. The Board is working to refocus and shape its ongoing operational efforts and is currently in the process of reorganizing itself to improve its competitive stance. Key to this would be the onboarding of a seasoned General Manager to lead the next stage of growth.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Landscape, Horticulture, Construction Management, Architecture or related field with over 10+ years of industry and management experience (advanced management degree would also be desired). Though, someone from an operations background without out degree, and with the requisite hands-on skill set and abilities, plus relevant experience, would also be considered for the role. Key is finding the most capable individual.

As the company’s responsible Managing Employee the company would be seeking an individual with possession of a valid State of California C-27 Landscape Contractor license or ability to obtain one and become bondable in the near future.

Beyond partnering with the leadership to efficiently operate the company’s operational activities and deliver the organization mission of providing customers with high quality service, responsibility and duties of the role also include:

-          Provides management and oversight for landscape business management operations, process management, and workflow. Ensure alignment and performance accountability of Landscape Maintenance Operations, Construction, Administration & Compliance, Sales, etc.

-          Team Building. Ensure senior management staff and employee engagement in team-centered culture, safety, and compliance and talent development; effectively aligns and leverages team strengths and expertise.

-          Effectively communicate and drive organizational change. Deliver Landscape brand promise, culture, and values to internal and external clients, including targeted market sectors.

-          Provide leadership and support to landscape maintenance service and construction installation business lines. Ensure sales staffs estimating/bid functions are accurate and timely.  Ensure executed work meets customer needs within profit objectives and established deadlines, and develops strategic labor and talent resourcing planning.

The post is a key contributor and trusted advisor for all activities and the individual holding it depended upon to ensure services are provided openly, efficiently and cost effectively.

The company has a strong benefits package with compensation range for the position set at an extremely competitive ($125,000 to $170,000 base); the objective being to find the most capable and talented individual available for the role.
